Coach Youngblut

Coach Youngblut

Is it just me, or does every coach dream of cutting down the nets and winning a State Championship in their first year as a head coach? Well, for Mallory Youngblut, that dream became a reality. In her first year as head coach of the Assumption Lady Knights, she led them to a 2011-12 Iowa 3A State Championship. When Coach Youngblut was asked about the keys to her success, she simply stated, “Our goal is to go out and out-work everyone we play.” And that obviously paid big dividends for the Lady Knights this season.

Coach Youngblut also utilizes The Gun, by Shoot-A-Way, to help her players get the added shooting repetition they need to be successful. With their up-tempo style and defensive prowess, the Lady Knights continually strive to improve their shooting percentage and confidence in pressure situations. That is why coach Youngblut uses The Gun 4 days a week in the off-season to create game-like shooting situations in practice. Coach Youngblut states, “For us, we use The Gun to build confidence. The more repetition you get, the more confident you are as a shooter.”

Coach Youngblut isn’t a stranger to The Gun. As a college basketball player at the University of North Dakota, she used The Gun in her own individual development as a shooter. “I lived on The Gun in college, shooting up to 500 shots a day. Anytime I was in a slump during the season, I would pull it out and go to work. I used it religiously.” Not only did her hard work pay off as a player, but it has obviously helped her as a coach as well. I guess in the end, it all comes down to hard work. And that was the goal of the Assumption Lady Knights all season – “To go out and out-work everyone we play.” We want to Congratulate Coach Youngblut and the Lady Knights on their 2011-12 State Championship! Our goals, your goals reached.
